English classes

English is an important skill that opens up new opportunities and broadens horizons. In Daikundi, many people understand the importance of education and private English courses are common. However, given the dire economic circumstances in Afghanistan today many families cannot afford English classes for their kids. We support ten female English teachers so that they can offer courses locally for the kids free of charge. As of February 2026, over 1000 kids are attending the courses, organised in 38 classes.

For new classes, we buy school books and other material for the courses. The basic setup for a classroom includes a carpet to sit on, a whiteboard, markers and a loud speaker. We cannot afford chairs and desks for the students, but people are accustomed to sitting on carpets. This gives the teachers more flexibility to accommodate high numbers of students.
